Harrington Foundation Hosts Final “Summer Sounds” Event
This year marked the end of The Harrington Foundation’s annual Summer Sounds event, the yearly concert, dinner and silent auction supporting The Harrington Foundation’s scholarship fund. Approximately 275 people, including Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, attended the event, enjoying the live music and beautiful views at Minneapolis’ Calhoun Beach Club while contributing to the Foundation’s educational efforts.
Over 150 items were up for bid this year, including the big sellers of the evening, 50,000 RCI Timeshare points (good for a one-week stay at any RCI Timeshare property) and a one-week stay at Causeway on Gull Lake. The silent auction raised nearly $12,000 for the Foundation and its scholarship fund.
Although this was the final year of Summer Sounds with the Harrington Foundation, it is the Foundation Board’s goal to award the Foundation’s funds, including those raised at Summer Sounds, to another foundation as yet to be determined by the Board. It is the Board’s goal to have this foundation award up to four yearly scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each in perpetuity or until the funds are exhausted.
The Harrington Company would like to thank the members of the THC staff who contributed to the success of this event. Tasha Frey was chair of Summer Sounds this year, and we thank her for volunteering her time and effort. Other volunteers included Corinna Hastings, who was chair of the silent auction; and J.R. Burke, who assisted with arranging the attendance of local dignitaries. Lisa Ferrier and Erin Helland also contributed to planning efforts, and Mary Deinken and Karin Maida managed all financial- and database-related tasks. Colleen Ayers, Kari Heltemes, Gloria Grove, Karen Wesloh, Gretchen Huetteman, Mary Deinken, Julia Kloehn, Emily Bourne, Heidi Prinsen, and Jennifer Clapp-Doane (tenant of THC) all provided on-site assistance during the event.
